Dr Sam Gartland
MB ChB BSc (Hons) MRCP (UK) FRACGP FASLM MSPMED
Dr Sam Gartland is a highly regarded, UK-trained doctor and Founder of Life Medical Mullumbimby. He is an approachable, highly qualified and caring General Practitioner whose practice has been profoundly influenced by his recovery from MS using a Lifestyle Medicine approach with an emphasis on plant-based nutrition.
Dr Gartland is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Lifestyle Medicine, Fellow of the RACGP and Member of the Royal College of Physicians UK. He holds a Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland and has trained in Nutrition with Cornell University.
Dr Gartland has worked with Premier League and A-League football clubs in the UK, is widely published in sports medicine literature, and is the co-author of the Overcoming MS Handbook published by Allen and Unwin. He has also appeared on the ABC 7.30 Report, presented with Doctors for Nutrition at their annual conference and appeared on the prestigious Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Exam Room Podcast.
Dr Gartland enjoys all aspects of General Practice and is committed to empowering people with the knowledge and skills to optimise their health and feel well.
Sam lives in the Northern Rivers with his young family and enjoys surfing, the amazing produce on offer at local farmersβ markets and keeping up with his three busy boys.
Dr Sarah Cunningham
Dr Sarah Cunningham qualified in medicine in Glasgow, Scotland, where she also completed her GP training. She came to Australia in 1989 and bought a small practice in Brisbane, which she grew into a large multidisciplinary team with five doctors. She was one of very few women to achieve this at the time. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and completed a postgraduate certificate in Womenβs Health through Edith Cowan University.
Dr Cunningham is passionate about preventative medicine. She became a member of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and obtained International Board Certification in Lifestyle Medicine. She also loved scuba diving and became qualified in Dive Medicine.
She sold her practice to IPN and worked there for five years before moving to the Northern Rivers in 2020.
She has four grown-up children and eight grandchildren under the age of nine. She works hard at keeping fit and is a strong advocate for womenβs issues, menopause, and healthy ageing. She has a wide range of interests, including singing, playing guitar and piano, and dancing. Over the years, she has been loved and respected by her many thousands of patients and is known for being empathetic and easy to talk to.
